A'Sharqiyah Sands Oman

The nature of this region blends three environments, each with its own distinctive character. The coastline, along the Arabian Sea and part of the Sea of Oman, tells the story of the hard work of resilient seafarers. Their tools are the boats they build with their own strong hands, and their equipment is the nets they weave with dexterous fingers while chanting melodious work songs. Under the cover of night, they sail out and battle the high waves in a constant struggle between the need to earn a living and the hope of returning home safely. At dawn, these hard-working men return with nets overflowing with fish, chanting in gratitude, “Thanks be to Allah” for His bounty and for a safe journey home. This is the first environment of South A'Sharqiyah Governorate, and it is the richest fishing ground in all of Oman. The second environment is the sand dunes, like a vast work of art, alive with the quiet nomadic life of herders and their wealth of cattle, camels, and horses for which North and South A'Sharqiyah Governorates are renowned. A defining feature of this Governorate is Bidiyah, where horse and camel races are held and attract fans from across the Sultanate and from abroad. The third environment is the urban and agricultural heartland, where both nomadic and coastal lifestyles meet. This region has a long history. In Ras Al Hadd Wilayat in South A'Sharqiyah Governorate, Allied planes were hidden during the Second World War. Its winding alleys still welcome sailors seeking refuge from destructive storms and violent winds.
